Speaker Series
Sharing Experiences
APLAM is proud to present a series of speakers who will share their practical experiences in various fields related to Asia Pacific law. Over the course of the year, we'll be inviting a mix of knowledgeable corporate and immigration practitioners, Canadian civil servants, as well as academics to bring their expertise to the Faculty.
For the Fall 2009 semester, look forward to seminars from Nikki Dryden, a New York-based immigration lawyer with extensive experience in Australian immigration and refugee law; the Honorable Martin Cauchon, head of Gowlings’ National China Group; and a panel, including former Canadian ambassador, Raymond Chretien, from Fasken Martineau. ADAPM est fière de vous présenter une série d'orateurs pour vous parler de leurs expériences pratiques en Asie. Au cours de l'année, des juristes expérimentés en droit d'immigration, droit des affaires, les services gouvernementaux, ainsi que des académiques partageront leurs histoires et leurs perspectives sur différents domaines du droit en Asie.

Getting Connected
This year, we made a big push to get connected with various Asia Pacific related organizations in our area such as the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL) and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). We're interested in observing how these groups interact with the Asia Pacific more than their ethnicity focus. NAPABA hosted its annual convention in Boston November 18-22, 2009 and we sent APLAM delegation to the event.

Cette année, nous aimerions tisser un réseau de relations avec d'autres organismes reliés avec l'Asie du Pacifique, tels FACL (Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers) et NAPABA (National Asian Pacific American Bar Association). Ce réseau nous permettra de voir comment ces organismes interagissent avec cette région du monde. NAPABA tient son colloque annuel à Boston du 18 au 22 novembre et nous avons l'intention d'envoyer une délégation d'ADAPM.

Reaching Out
We think that APLAM has something to contribute to the greater Montreal community - particularly the demographic of Asia Pacific descent. This year, we are working to improve the dissemination of tenant and landlord rights and obligations information to the Montreal Chinese community through a translation and a seminar project in collaboration with the McGill Legal Information Clinic and the Westmount Legal Clinic,

Nous pensons qu'ADAPM pourrait contribuer à la communauté montréalaise - particulièrement la démographie venant de l'Asie Pacifique. Cette année, nous aimerions améliorer la diffusion des informations à la communauté chinoise de Montréal concernant les obligations des locateurs et des locataires avec un projet de traduction et un projet de séminaires. Ces projets se feront en collaboration avec la Clinique d'Information Juridique de McGill et la Clinique Juridique de Westmount.

Wondering where the Asia Pacific is in our course offerings and exchange programs? So are we. This year, we're exploring avenues for more inclusion of the Asia Pacific within current courses, student initiated seminars, and exchange offerings to universities in Asia.

Cette année, nous travaillons pour bientôt inclure des sujets de l'Asie Pacifique dans nos cours, pour avoir des séminaires initiés par les étudiants sur cette région du monde, ainsi que pour avoir plus de possibilités d'échanges en Asie.
